How to Spend a Casual Day in Washington, D.C.

My cousins grew up in D.C., so I was there often, and had seen all the sights multiple times. This past summer my grandma was out east visiting, and I decided to spend a day with her in D.C. Our day was the perfect way to just enjoy the weather, the sights and each other's company.

Union Station, Washington D.C.
We started our day, dropped off at Union Station, where we found the Circulator Bus, an easy and cheap way to get around the #NationalMall. Plus, we enjoyed the view from the bus, as it took us around our favorite DC spots.

Grandma and I at the Reflecting Pool
We got off the bus at our favorite spot, the Lincoln Memorial. We didn't climb the steps, but still enjoyed the views. We leisurely walked through both the Korean War and Vietnam Veterans Memorials. After our walk, we stopped for lunch, grabbing hot dogs from a vender, as many other DC tourists do.

Smithsonian Museum
Next, it was back on the bus and then a stop to the original Smithsonian Museum. Having been to several of the museums, this building was fun because it gave snapshots of items that are featured at each of the main museums. Free admission and no wait to enter.

National Postal Museum
Did you know that the National Postal Museum is right next to Union Station? Great place to stop by if you are in the area and need to kill some time. Interesting displays showing history and large stamp collection.

And so our day concluded, enjoying a snack at Union Station, waiting for our ride, and most importantly, people watching! D.C. is full of possibility, even if you need a quiet day of hanging out with your grandma :) xo
